Year 10-11

When your child finishes year 11, there are several different routes they can choose to pursue. This period of their education is called “Post-16”. The route they take depends mostly upon their future career or job aspirations. Everyone’s journey will be different, but below you will find the most common routes taken at Post-16:

Please note: Young people in England are required by law to stay in education or training until aged 18. This is called the Raising Participation Age.

There are several pathways for 16 to 18 year olds to choose from, depending on what they're thinking about doing next. They can choose to:

  • Study full-time.
  • Start an apprenticeship.
  • Work or volunteer full-time with part-time study or training
