Job Title: PhD student

Qualifications:

  • First Class Medical Genetics BSc, A Levels, BTec, GCSEs

Profile

I attended the University of Leicester to complete a Medical Genetics BSc with a year in industry. I completed my year in industry at GSK in the Cell and Gene Therapy department, where my role was to optimise the production of lentiviral vectors for treatment of colon cancer. I graduated the University of Leicester with a First Class degree in 2023. In September 2023, I enrolled in a PhD programme - the Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership (MIBTP), where I am undertaking my PhD in the molecular biology of ageing through a process known as senescence. Here, I am looking to characterise the process of ageing and potentially find a drug which can combat the effects of cellular ageing to improve lifespan and healthspan of individuals in the future. Additionally, as part of the MIBTP, I have been able to undertake extensive quantitative skills training including statistics, data science and programming. The MIBTP is run across 5 universities: Leicester, Warwick, Birmingham, Aston and Harper Adams, meaning I've had the opportunity to undertake mini research projects and training across the different sites.
